Skippy Waters knows a thing or two about servicing the community and his 2009 Readers’ Choice Awards are proof of that.
Waters owns Texas Tint & Audio in Terrell and is also the fire chief for the McLendon-Chisholm Volunteer Fire Department.
His dedication to local communities have earned him not one, but two awards in 2009 as “Favorite Car Tinter” and “Favorite Fireman.”
Waters got started in both ventures quite some time ago, but he hasn’t slowed down at all.
“I’ve been firefighting for 17 years and doing tinting and stereos for 25 years now,” he said. “I got started in both back home in Houston.”
Waters got his start in the tinting and car audio business as a high school student in Houston and eventually owned his own shop there. His first role as a firefighter was with the Northwest Fire Department in Houston.
Once his mother-in-law fell ill, Waters and his wife moved north to be closer to family, giving him the opportunity to open his business at 1008 W. Moore Avenue in 2003. He also became the fire chief in McLendon-Chisholm eight years ago.
As far as firefighting is concerned, Waters said the experience is something worth cherishing.
“It’s definitely rewarding,” he said. “If somebody is having a heart attack at two in the morning, there’s nobody else in the county and we are the first responders.”
Waters has to do some serious juggling as a business owner and volunteer fireman, but he says the guys he works with make it easy on him.
“I’ve got guys who are in the district, so if it’s something small, I’ll let them handle it,” he said. “If it’s a structure fire, then I will roll on it. We’re on call 24 hours a day.”
As far as his business is concerned, Waters operates his shop with the help of David Crawford, his shop manager since day one. Waters’ sons, Glenn and RJ, also works there from time to time.
At Texas Tint & Audio, Waters offers a number of services from window tinting to alarm installation to stereos as well as vinyl stickers, signs and banners.
But what sets his business apart from the competition?
“We’re honest, that’s the main thing and we stand behind our warranties,” he said. “We have lifetime warranties on a number of products and services and quality is our top priority. Our products and the prices we have help set us apart.”
Waters offers top-of-the-line
equipment in car audio and tinting and will have several items marked down for the holidays.
Texas Tint & Audio is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Visit for more information.
“We strive to bring the best service we can to our customers,” Waters said. “We certainly appreciate the votes of support.”
Thanks Terrell!
